Breast Lift
A breast lift is a standard procedure in cosmetic surgery. The breast is made to look younger and feel firmer during the surgery. The surgery is called mastopexy and is performed on women whose breasts have started to hang. This is often the result of pregnancy, breastfeeding, old age, and/or simply gravity! Pregnancy and an expansion of the breasts during breastfeeding cause the fibrous bonds that support the breasts to break off and stretch the skin.
Treatments
Welcome to Essential Aesthetics Clinic, your premier destination for breast lift treatments. With over 10 years of experience, our clinic specializes in the transformative art of breast lift, also known as mastopexy.
Our step by step process
Our Care Team will welcome you by phone and ask the necessary questions to schedule a suitable appointment. We will also ask about your current health, surgical time frame, and previous surgeries to help us prepare for your arrival. Again, we would be delighted to welcome you to our clinic!
Your first visit to us is a so-called pre-consultation. It will occur with our specialist, who will guide you as best as possible through this unique journey. First, a specialist is there to listen to your needs and concerns. Then, our specialist will share her expertise and knowledge while trying to match your wishes with the available range of services and treatments.
Secondly, we will show you different options based on the information provided, and together will discuss each care package.
The third step is choosing from our experienced physicians who would suit your treatment. Our specialist will show you the surgeon’s broad portfolio and give you a free copy of our Patient Information Guide to the surgery to reread at home.
The fourth and last step will be with the surgeon selected by our expert. We understand that one visit is not enough when deciding on your body and safety, which is why we encourage a second visit.
By now, we have also received and processed all data for a pre-operative screening.
During this consultation, the treatment’s technical aspects and possible risks are discussed, and you are prepared for the big day!
Arriving at this step of your journey, you have already met our medical team and received all the necessary information. All preparations have been made, and it is finally time for the treatment. We understand that this is a milestone for many. Therefore we do our utmost to make it as comfortable as possible. Our team will share your excitement with you right up to the surgery.
There are three to four check-ups depending on your healing:
The first check-up is three or four days after the surgery to determine whether the plasters can be removed. The second check-up is after one week at the plastic surgeon’s when the stitches are removed.
The third and final check-up is after about six weeks. The surgeon checks whether the wounds have healed properly and whether the eyelid correction has been successful. If a fourth check-up is necessary, it will occur three months after the surgery at the plastic surgeon’s. Our care team will help you with your preparations during your consultation with the surgeon and guide you after the surgery so that you know what to expect and heal as quickly as possible. You will receive a document with patient information before the surgery containing national advice. In addition, the surgeon and the care team will give you advice that is specific to you.
Prepare
Stop smoking at least 4 weeks before the surgery. This is better for blood circulation and healing.
Discuss any medication you are taking with the doctor. Blood thinning medication should generally not be used for a few days before the surgery. If you are taking medication such as Marcoumar, Sintrom/Sintrommitis, or Asprocardio, you must discuss this with the doctor.
If you take Aspirin or aspirin-containing painkillers (Advil, Diclofenac, etc.), we advise you to stop taking them one week before the open surgery and to start again only three days after the surgery. During this period, you can use painkillers such as Paracetamol and Panadol.
Start taking Arnica drops two weeks before the procedure, ensuring that the bruises and swelling disappear more quickly.
Arrange transport to and from home before the surgery. Driving after the surgery is not possible for about two weeks.
Arrange help in the house for the first period. Especially the first nights, we advise you not to be alone.
Don’t forget to check if you have given the clinic all the information we need to order the special bra you must wear after the surgery. We advise you to order two bras.
Surgery
Do not wear jewelry, watches or piercings.
Make sure you don’t eat or drink 6 hours before the surgery.
Take a shower or bath; after the surgery, you may only shower again after two to three days.
Give the person who is collecting you an approximate time. The doctor will help you estimate this.
Aftercare
After the surgery, you will be given prescriptions for medication, such as painkillers in consultation with the surgeon.
Due to the reduction, your breasts will probably be tense and swollen after surgery. This takes just as long until the skin has adapted to your new breast size.
Rest well for a few days after the surgery.
Only sleep on your back for the first period. After two weeks, you can sleep carefully on your side.
Ask the doctor when you can shower.

FAQ
This treatment is also carried out under general anesthesia. A keyhole incision most commonly performs the procedure. In this procedure, the incision is made in the skin around the areola with two diagonal downward incisions (i.e. in the form of a keyhole). The glandular tissue, fat, and skin are all removed, and the nipples are repositioned. A mastopexy can also reduce the size of the areola (the brown skin around the nipple).
The skin is pulled down from both sides of the breast and around the areola, forming the new breast curve.
The breast tissue and skin are sutured together, usually with soluble sutures. The scars have the shape of an anchor with a circle around the areola, vertically up to the fold below the breast and extending horizontally along the fold below the breast. If you wish your breasts to be fuller or hang less, they can be filled during surgery by inserting silicone breast implants.
We advise you to remain realistic and not expect perfection. Your surgeon should take a number of factors into account when assessing your mastopexy or breast reduction, such as:
These will influence the outcome of your breast surgery.
Breast lift is a reliable and safe procedure. The result is immediately visible after the procedure. But keep in mind that your breasts will be wrapped in compressive bandages after the surgery, so you won’t be able to see your new breasts immediately. Your breasts will also be swollen at first. The end result is visible around 6 months later. The scars will have been discolored after a year and will barely be noticeable anymore.
The breasts will be firmly bandaged after the surgery. The bandage can be removed after 48 hours. You will wear a special postoperative bra immediately after the surgery. This bra resembles a sports bra and gives your breasts the support they need. Wear this bra for as long as necessary.
Pain is moderate and can be easily controlled with pain medication. Sometimes drains are also inserted to drain wound fluid. Lifting your arms higher than your shoulders is not recommended for the first six weeks after the surgery. Lifting and exercising are also not recommended. After those six weeks, you can slowly start moving usually. However, make sure that your breasts are well-supported.
Depending on the extent of the surgery, you may need a drain through the skin, but this can usually be removed within 24 hours. In addition, there will be some support bands or tape on the breasts, which can be replaced by a sports or surgical bra.
We expect you – depending on your job – to be able to resume your normal activities within two to four weeks. Please remember that some occupations, such as physically demanding tasks, require a more extended recovery. If you cannot stop working during the necessary recovery period, you should postpone your surgery to a more suitable time.
This also applies to patients with strenuous hobbies (e.g., horse riding, and gymnastics). Should there be complications, the period to refrain from such activities will be extended until you fully recover.
Normal things that can happen after surgery:
Like all surgeries, breast lifts involve risks, and there is a risk of complications. The risks and complications include:
