A filler is a gel based on hyaluronic acid or collagen, a natural substance in our skin and joints. These substances improve the hydration and quality of the skin. When your skin is well hydrated, it looks smooth and firm. As we age, the amount of hyaluronic acid and collagen our body produces reduces. Therefore our skin becomes drier and less voluminous. As a result, the face sags, and wrinkles and folds appear.

The name “fillers” says it all; a filler temporarily fills (lost) volume. Fillers can smooth the skin, contour the jawline and make the lips or cheekbones more voluminous. Fillers can hydrate and improve skin quality, helping you slow down the aging process.

The Teosyal Pen enables the doctor to work more precisely. The specialist can set the injection quantity and injection rate, according to the type of treatment and the treatment area. The gel is injected slowly, perfectly dosed, and controlled thanks to the motorized system. As the injection is electronically controlled, the specialist can focus entirely on the placement of the gel instead of on applying pressure as required with conventional manual syringes.

After the injection, the filling effect is immediate. Sometimes a second treatment must take place after 4 – 6 weeks to achieve a better result, lasting 12 – 24 months.

 Most people are satisfied with the result of the first treatment. To maintain a long-lasting effect, the doctor can repeat the treatment as soon as the effect diminishes or has disappeared.

It is wise not to exert yourself physically for the first 24 hours after the treatment. You should also avoid strong muscle movements of the face as much as possible.

Avoid overexposure to the sun for about 1 week. Use the sauna and sunbed until the swelling and redness of the treated area have disappeared.

Do not undergo any treatment by a beautician in the treated area for the first 2 weeks, such as peelings, connective tissue massages, facial scrubs, microdermabrasion, laser or other facial treatments.

You may wash your face gently. Wait 4 hours to apply or make up products.

If you feel a thickening at the injection site in the days after treatment, you can massage it for a few days, a few times a day for a few minutes, according to your doctor’s instructions, especially do not do this any longer as there is a chance that swelling and redness will occur!

If your lips are treated, do not kiss or drink hot or cold beverages for the first 24 hours after the treatment.

Blue spots can be treated with Arnica cream.

The duration of a filler depends on the brand. The hyaluronic acid filler brands we use at Essential Aesthetics, which we are proud to work with, are Juvéderm, Belotero, and Stylage.

Juvéderm lasts between 9-24 months
Belotero and Stylage last approximately 6 months.

After this period, the body starts breaking the filler down gradually.

There is always a risk of you not liking the results. A filler treatment may have been unsuitable for your face. In this case, you can either wait until the product is dissolved and broken down by your body naturally, or the filler can be dissolved using Hyalase®.

Hyalase® is a filler containing hyaluronidase, a solution that breaks down the hyaluronic acid in the filler substance. It starts to work immediately after being injected in the desired area. The result may take up to two weeks. Depending on the treated area, several Hyalase® treatments might be needed, as in some cases, the Hyalase® cannot dissolve the entire filler in the area at once.

Hyaluronic acid is a natural product that also occurs in normal skin and is completely biodegradable. The risk of allergic reactions to hyaluronic acid is minimal because it does not contain animal proteins. There is always a small risk of more than average swelling and bruising, but these often disappear within one to two weeks.

Usually, the treated skin is slightly swollen and red for a few hours after the treatment. These reactions are always mild and disappear spontaneously. The treated area can be cooled with cold compresses to keep swelling minimal. 

To further reduce swelling, we recommend not bending over too much during the first 2 days after the injections and keeping your head upright as much as possible. During the night, you may rest your head on a pillow.

A bruise (bruising) can sometimes appear on thin skin for a few days, which you can camouflage with makeup.
